Our Programs - READING RECOVERY

The purpose of the Reading Recovery Intervention program is to build on children’s strengths in Reading and Writing, while focusing on expanding the strategies they use to interpret written language. Students selected for Reading Recovery will receive daily half hour individual lessons on reading and writing to accelerate their progress at a quicker rate than they would in the classroom. They are required to do a small amount of homework each night. These tasks are:
• Reading a take home book to a parent,
• Pasting a cut up sentence into a book and rereading it,
• Learning 1-2 new words A vital aspect of this program is parental support, through following up on teaching sessions by hearing students read their books and completing a sentence activity at home each night.

Research has shown that families who complete Reading Recovery activities at home improve their child’s confidence and overall ability in learning tasks at school.
